Swayambhunath Temple

Thursday, 9 November 2017

Our next stop was the large stupa complex at Swayambhunath. The stupas and temples are on a hilltop to the east of Kathmandu. The area is colloquially known as the "Monkey Temple" because of the large number of rhesus macaques on the grounds.

Prayer flags flying high at the Swayambhunath stupa.
Nepalese stupas are noted for the eyes of the Buddha looking out from the four cardinal directions.
Prayer wheels on the perimeter of the stupa.
A smaller stupa in the complex.
A small temple in the complex with butter lamps burning outside.
The panoramic view Kathmandu from Swayambhunath.
