The Dingle Way: Overview

The Dingle Way is an established walking path around the Dingle Peninsula in southwestern Ireland. Tralee is the start of the walk, and a 4-hour train ride from Dublin, with a transfer in Mallow. We spent 10 days walking, and one extra day in Dingle town.

The Dingle Peninsula is the northernmost of several peninsulas in southwestern Ireland.

A map of the Dingle Way showing our path from Tralee to Camp, then a clockwise loop around the peninsula, where we returned to Camp and then walked back to Tralee.

Our tour was arranged by Hillwalk Tours, who offers a number of walking tours in Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and the Camino de Santiago. Not only does Hillwalk book your B&Bs and shuttle your luggage each day, their GPS-marked routes make it nearly impossible to go off-track. They also included great documentation on using trains and buses to get around Ireland. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

Everyone wants to mention that several films have been filmed on the Dingle Peninsula - especially the far western end. Many of the B&Bs have photo albums of the filming and their parts (or their property's parts) in the films. The list includes: Ryan's Daughter, Far and Away, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the lesser known films The Playboy of the Western World and Song of the Sea.

Overnight in Tralee before starting the walk at the Grand Hotel. Comfortable. Good location in the center of Tralee. Close to train station.
