A selection photos from our visit to Ahmedabad.

First a few pictures from Ahmedabad itself.

One of the "jaalis"  (screens) at the rear of the Sidi Sayid Masjid. These were carved in stone, and have become an icon of Ahmedabad.

The second large jaali.

Gandhiji's house at the Sabarmati Ashram (also known as Satyagraha Ashram and Gandhi Ashram), where Gandhi lived from 1917 to 1930.

Visiting schoolchildren were paying no attention to the Gandhi statue in a open area of the ashram.

At the Green House restaurant in the House of MG hotel. Food and ambiance are outstanding.

Moving outside Ahmedabad:

A camel waiting to haul a cart of firewood from a wind-thrown tree at the Surya Mandir (Sun Temple) near Modhera.

A herd of camels on the road near Patan. We saw many camel carts on the roads. Interestingly, the fields were being plowed with tractors. Around Vapi that's reversed: tractors pull carts and bullocks plow the fields and rice paddies.

In India, there's always room for one (or two) more in a vehicle. The rear door didn't look all that secure, either.
