Yaroslavl has a classic market area -- partly open air and partly under roof. Although we didn't buy anything, we always enjoy walking through markets.
The open-air market had some food, but was mostly filled with clothing stalls of all types, from hats to dresses to shoes (and more). |
The indoor market building held food of all sorts, from fresh produce ... |
... to dried fruits, nuts, and beans ... |
... to a wide selection of meats, both fresh and cured. Other specialty items could be found in small shops around the perimeter. |
Nearby was a wide pedestrian street, Kirova Ulitsa, with lots of cafes and souvenir shops. |
A large bronze bear is a tourist attraction on this street. |
The bear with halberd is the symbol of Yaroslavl and can images can be found all over town, such as the park benches along the Volga (right) and the sign sign (left) at the Governor's House, which is now an art museum. |
