Although officially monsoon has about another month to go, the frequency of rain definitely has been waning the last week or two. Today we had sunshine for most of our 8 km (5 mile) walk. Of course, that means it's also hot and dusty. I'll need to start carrying a liter of water with us -- a half-liter wasn't enough!

Marble and granite vendors in Vapi. |

The sidewalks in Vapi are raised 12 to 18 inches above the road. They cover drainage deep ditches (3 to 4 feet deep) that drain the monsoon waters off the roads. It's not unusual to have sections of the concrete sidewalk missing -- and you definitely don't want to fall into this water! |
