Anadolu Medeniyetieri Müzesi (Museum of Anatolian Civilizations)
At the base of the castle is the Museum. Right now only 40% of the museum is on display -- the remaining 60% is undergoing renovations. But the two galleries that were open were well-worth visiting. It's humbling looking at artifacts that go back to 1300 BCE -- the beginnings of human civilization.
The Museum is housed in a structure built as a bazaar in the mid-1400's. It was destroyed by fire in 1881, but restored and opened as a museum in 1943. |
The Museum contains many large stone pieces from ancient sites. |
There were a lot of terra-cotta vessels. I particularly liked these boar-shaped ones. |
