Punakha Dzong

Thursday, 16 November 2017

Our final visit of the day was to the Punakha Dzong (fortress). This was a most imposing building and still holds active government offices and a monastery.

The Punakha Dzong and its cantilever bridge over the Mo Chhu.
The governmental courtyard holds a large Bodhi Tree and a large stupa.
The Lama's residence in Punakha Dzong.
The temple in Punakha Dzong.

Punakha Dzong.
Beehives in the Punakha Dzong. The hives are black because they are covered with bees. Remnants of older hives can also been seen.
Two young monks near the Punakha Dzong monastery school.
After visiting the Dzong, we walked about 1 km to a 200-m long suspension bridge over the Pho Chhu.
We walked across the bridge (and back). It was no where near as scary as it looked!
