Animals & "Who Needs a Truck?"

Lon had to go to the Gujarat state capital in Gandhinagar today, so I got to tag along and see Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Lon took this photo of a peacock along the road in Gandhinagar.

There were a number of camels on the road in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. I really didn't have an appreciation of how large they really are until we walked by one just after sunset (hence the strange colors) on the road in Gandhinagar.

And now ... "Who needs a truck when you have a bicycle / motorcycle / tuk-tuk?"

Everything from plumbing to livestock can be carried on motorcycles or bicycles. My favorites are a 2-meter step ladder held vertically on a motorcycle, and during monsoon, numerous motorcycle passengers riders try to protect themselves from rain with an umbrella.

From today's travels:

In Vapi: It takes two passengers to carry both a stepladder and a pipe (?) on a tuk-tuk.
Along NH 8: This is a major 4-lane highway. These plastic chairs are not just for outside use.
They are ubiquitous throughout India from homes to shops to hotels.
In Ahmedabad: Most of the time a bicycle this full of cargo is being pushed, not ridden.
I'm not sure of the vegetation, but this is not an unusual sight -- motorcycle, bicycle, or human head.

And finally, what's unusual about this picture?
Answer: This is a 4-lane highway. This side of the bridge is supposed to be one-way.
But why let that stand in the way of convenience?

It's all just another day in India!
