Antarctica - Ice

Sunday, 23 February 2020

We spent the day at the very tip of the Antarctic Peninsula: Brown Bluff and Devil Island (a small island just off the larger, but still small, Vega Island). I'll start with lots of fantastic ice photos.

The snow was coming down as we cruised in Zodiacs around the ice off Brown Bluff.
Waves and wind carve the ice into fantastical shapes.
I thought this iceberg looked like an animal head -- a dog? a bear? a dinosaur?
Later, in the Antarctic Sound, we saw a large tabular iceberg that broke off an ice shelf. Even though it's huge, it's not big enough to get a number or be tracked.
Summer is ending and sea ice is beginning to form as it gets colder and snow accumulates.
Arches and caves in an iceberg near Devil Island.
