Chowmahalla Palace
This palace is in the heart of old Hyderabad, directly behind the huge Mecca Mosque. It's an oasis of tranquility in the heart of Hyderabad's old bazaars. This palace was built and used by the Nazims, who conquered the Qutb dynasty in the late 1600's. They ruled this part of India until independence in 1947.
This was not a residential palace -- it was used exclusively for receptions and entertaining. Within the palace walls are two large courtyards, two smaller courtyards, and several buildings of varying sizes.
