Panna National Park - Part 2

Monday, 20 March 2017

A safari is all about the animals. This one did not disappoint.

Deer and antelope

Most of the animals we saw were deer and antelope. Here is a spotted deer (doe) and her fawn.
For a relatively small deer, spotted deer can have impressive racks of antlers.
Same pair of deer, better view of antlers.
Sambar were also plentiful. They are large, muscular deer.
Their ears were red when backlit.
Chinkara or Indian gazelle

Birds

Red-wattled lapwings are common throughout India.
I left my bird book at home, so I’ll have to try to identify this bird later.
Crested Serpent Eagle. We saw two or three of these.

Crocodile

A large crocodile viewed from safely across the river.

Tiger - finally!

After no luck in Bandhavgarh and Kanha in 2015, we finally got to see a tiger -- even if it was a long way off on the other side of the river.

We heard a loud splash in the river -- a tiger had shown up and the crocodile decided to leave for the river.
After a few minutes, the tiger got up and walked away.
Last sighting as he made his way into the forest.
