Ice! It's in Iceland's name!
Glaciers
We only visited one glacier in Iceland - we saw more in Greenland.

Svinafellsjökull near Skaftafell. This is a glacial tongue off the massive Vatnajökull. |

The end of the glacier. |
Icebergs
26 August
 |
Icebergs calve off Breiðamerkurjökull into Jökulsárlón (glacial lagoon). The weather was not very cooperative, and we'd seen lots of icebergs in Greenland (forthcoming post), so we did not take a boat ride to view the icebergs up close. |
 |
The icebergs eventually float down a short river, where they get trapped on Diamond Beach. |
 |
Diamond Beach is named for the clarity of the icebergs on the beach. |
 |
Another beached iceberg. |
 |
Lon in front of an iceberg to give a feel for these size of these chunks of ice. It was a stormy day, so we were wearing complete rain gear. |
