Around Hassan

The train took us from Mysore to Hassan overnight -- a fairly short distance. From Hassan we traveled to three sites by bus: Shravanabelagola, Halebid, and Belur. This post shows some of the interesting sights along the road.

It's pilgrimage time. These people are being fed at a local temple (below) while on a pilgrimage.

In Karnataka, many irrigated fields can give two or three crops a year, so there was both a lot of harvesting and a lot of planting going on.

Storage of "paddy" -- whole stems of rice. The structure is raised off the ground and topped with palm thatch.

This is a pile of ginger root that is being washed with a hose before being bagged and loaded on a truck.

Sheep were grazing just outside the temple at Halebid. A man is sleeping on the left -- Indians (especially men) seem to be able to sleep anywhere there is a small flat surface: rocks, roads, benches, fields, … you name it.

There were a total of about 12 or 15 of these wind turbines on the top of hillocks around Hassan.
