Mysore Markets -- Flowers, Vegetables, and Silk

Vegetable Market

Before dinner, we toured the main market in Mysore. It was crowded and lively. There was one area devoted to flowers, and a few stalls selling other items. Unlike other vegetable markets I've been to, each stall seemed to have a specialty -- bananas, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and many more.

At least three varieties of bananas are for sale in this part of India.
The original disposable plate: Food is served directly on banana leaves. When dinner is over, the leaves (with any remaining food inside) are folded and put outside for livestock to eat.
Along with onions, tomatoes are a staple of Indian cooking.
Flower garlands for sale.
Rice flour mixed with dyes are used to produce the decorations outside the door to each house.

Silk

This part of India is a major producer of silk.
These men are carrying bales of silkworm cocoons that provide the fiber for silk thread.
The final product: fine silk textiles in a store display window.
After dinner we had a chance to shop for silks.
