Australia - 11 - Cairns to Cape Tribulation

Monday, 10 April 2023

Our GAdventures tour ended this morning with a transfer from Port Douglas to the Cairns airport. We opted to spend an extra three days at Cape Tribulation before flying to Sydney to join our eclipse tour. So we rented a car at the airport and spent three days driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Fortunately, our rental had an automatic transmission.

These signs are all over the most foreign-tourist visited areas of Australia.

Our first stop was the small seaside town of Palm Cove. The beaches were gorgeous, but somewhat dangerous.

Another not-so-subtle warning about swimming in Australia - this one includes crocs.

Vinegar is the recommended first aid for jellyfish stings - followed immediately by medical attention. These vinegar posts were common on popular beaches.

A beach protected by a "stinger net". Unfortunately, on this day, the beach was still considered too dangerous for swimming.

A closer look at the stinger net.

The view from Alexandra Overlook in Cape Tribulation National Park. After crossing the Daintree River on a ferry, the road becomes very narrow and winding.

We were staying at the Cape Trib Beach House, which has beach access from cabins nestled in the rainforest. It's at the very end of the paved road.

Some critter spent a lot of time excavating in the sand.

Ghost crab.

Mangroves along the beach.
