Australia - 15 - Back in Sydney

Thursday, 13 April, and Friday, 14 April 2023

Our next tour - an eclipse tour down the west coast of Australia, starts in Sydney on Friday evening, so we flew from Cairns to Sydney on Thursday morning, arriving at our hotel in the early afternoon.

The view from the top-floor restaurant and bar of our hotel (The Shangri-La) was amazing.

A large tanker makes its way through Sydney Harbour.

Circular Quay and the Opera House - and for a change, no large cruise ship blocking the view.

Rain showers and crepuscular rays over Sydney Harbour.

But rain showers make for lots of rainbows.

The Sydney Observatory was a short distance from our hotel. The Observatory sits on the highest hill in Sydney. In the past, the daily ball-drop from the tower established the precise time needed for accurate navigation on the seas.

The Observatory from ground level. Unfortunately, the Observatory is currently undergoing renovations and not open to visitors.

Sandstone blocks lining the walk around the Barangaroo Reserve show interesting strata and faults. (The circular lines from sawing the rocks are also prominent.)

Just can't resist the ever-photogenic Opera House.
