Australia - 8 - Port Douglas

Friday, 7 April 2023

Today we flew from Sydney to Cairns (pronounced "Cans"), and then our guide drove us in a mini-bus (towing a luggage trailer) up to Port Douglas.

Leaving Sydney.

The view from Rex Lookout between Cairns and Port Douglas. The rainforest meets the ocean in this part of Queensland. The enticing beaches are off-limits because of crocodiles, box jellyfish (stings can be lethal!), and, to a lesser extent, sharks.

Crocodiles can almost always be seen where the Mowbray River crosses the road near Port Douglas.

The Mossman Gorge is just a few miles further up the road from Port Douglas. We had an afternoon visit to the Mossman Gorge Cultural Center, which included the Aboriginal "Dreamtime Walk".

Looking upstream at Mossman Gorge.

Boyd's Forest Dragon on a tree in Mossman Gorge.

Our guide extraordinaire, Dax. Unflappable!
