Today we flew from Sydney to Cairns (pronounced "Cans"), and then our guide drove us in a mini-bus (towing a luggage trailer) up to Port Douglas.

| The view from Rex Lookout between Cairns and Port Douglas. The rainforest meets the ocean in this part of Queensland. The enticing beaches are off-limits because of crocodiles, box jellyfish (stings can be lethal!), and, to a lesser extent, sharks. |

| Crocodiles can almost always be seen where the Mowbray River crosses the road near Port Douglas. |

| The Mossman Gorge is just a few miles further up the road from Port Douglas. We had an afternoon visit to the Mossman Gorge Cultural Center, which included the Aboriginal "Dreamtime Walk". |
