I don't normally write about our hotels. They are generally very nice to luxurious. But every once in a while we get to a hotel that is so spectacular or unusual, that it seems impossible not to mention it. Such is the Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado in Urubamba (roughly half-way between Cusco and Machu Picchu).

When a building is completed, it is common in this part of Peru to put a pair of oxen on the roof to bring prosperity. Each building in our hotel complex had oxen on the roof. |
As is usual on our trips, our days are so jam-packed with sightseeing that we really don't have time to enjoy the hotel amenities.
