Floreana - Post Office Bay

Monday, 27 August 2018
Galapagos Day 3

Floreana has had a lot of human influence over the years, from explorers and pirates to European "settlers". At times the history combines soap opera histrionics and a murder mystery. One of the long-standing traditions on the island is "Post Office Bay", where mail has been informally exchanged for centuries.

Gilda removing the zip-lock bags of post cards to see if any of us could hand-deliver them to the recipients.
Gilda's head gear for sun and bug protection made me think she was wearing a hijab. Here she's describing how the Post Office works: visitors can pick up any post cards they can hand-deliver. Visitors can also drop off post cards for subsequent visitors to possibly deliver.
Yellow warblers are pretty little birds, but difficult to photograph since they flit around, only spending a few seconds at any one spot.
