We just returned from an 18-day trip to Peru (Machu Picchu, Cusco, Sacred Valley) and the Galapagos (Ecuador).

Near the end of our flight from Panama City to Lima, we caught glimpses of the Peruvian coastal desert.

| The actual coastline was covered with fog, but the mountains were brown and dusty. It's hard to believe that anyone could live here. |

| The rocks showed abruptly changing colors, and impressively large, but dry river beds. |
 |
| I could see a large, imposing canyon in the distance. |
