China - Lhasa - Norbulingka

Friday, 26 April 2019

First stop today was Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama's summer palace.

Norbulingka means "Treasure Garden". This is the gate into the inner part of the garden.
One of the brightly painted lions guarding the gate. It's a female lion -- her left paw is on a cub.
A closer look at the top of the gate.
Dragons adorn the roof edges.
The New Summer Palace was completed in 1954, just before the current Dalai Lama escaped over the border into exile in India.
Photography is not allowed inside, but you can sneak a peek through the exterior door.
