China - Xi'an - Small Wild Goose Pagoda

Wednesday, 24 April 2019

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built of brick in 709 CE to preserve Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by monks.

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has been damaged, but never destroyed, by earthquakes.
A large bell hangs at one end of the gardens around the pagoda.
When the bell is rung with a log mallet, ...
... the sound waves from the bell cause water to bubble and overflow dishes in the four corners of the pond that surrounds the bell.
The top of the Xi'an City Museum peeks over the wall around the garden.
The Drum Tower in the heart of Xi'an was built nearby in 1384 CE, and moved to this site in 1582.
