England - Bowness-on-Windermere

Wednesday, 22 May, and Thursday, 23 May 2019

We had plenty of time on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning to walk around Bowness before getting a taxi to the train station in Windermere.

St. Martin's Church in Bowness-on-Windermere.
Originally we weren't going to go into St. Martin's, but the sign outside was too intriguing  -- "re-consecrated in 1483" and "God does knee-mail".
The interior was quite different from the other old churches we'd been in on the Dales Way. The ceiling beams had words of hope and inspiration written on them.
And the walls had parts of the catechism, although the text was so "Gothic" that I had difficulty reading the words. There were also several old (1600s) parish bibles on display.
Row boats and motor boats for hire.
A look up Lake Windermere.
A strikingly colored duck near the docks. It seems like it should be easy to identify the species, but I couldn't find anything similar in my bird books. A Google image search suggested "mallard" -- nope!
Crows and pigeons apparently can't read. They were pecking holes in bags of "Lucky Duck Food".
