China - Xi'an - Shaanxi History Museum

Wednesday, 24 April 2019

It would take more than the time we had to fully see the Shaanxi History Museum. The pieces cover local history from prehistoric times to the present. Here are some highlights.

Two birds on a bronze vessel.
Wine vessels come in many shapes and sizes. This one is an ox.
The original (and literal) pottery barn.
A whimsical "tomb-guarding beast". To me it looks like the Man in the Moon meets a stegasaurus.
You would expect, of course, a good exhibit on the Terracotta Army. This figure shows and example of possible original colors.
These figures were excavated from the tomb of Zhu Chengyong. The flags, banner, lamps, and musical instruments they once held were made of fabric and wood and have decayed away.
The emperor at the rear of the procession.
